International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation

Sentenced to no sexual pleasure! ⚖️⚖️

Over 230 million females in the world have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).If this just seems as statistics to you, permit us define FGM for you.

Female Genital Mutilation is the complete or partial cutting off of the female external genitalia. This implies removing the flaps (labia) that cover the entry to the vagina and/or the clitoris which lies above the urethra (passage of urine). These parts that are removed have been long recognized as zones for heightened sensitivity for a sexual response/excitement, and this is sometimes done in infancy/childhood.

Though a practice some might consider extinct, yet in certain parts of Africa and Asia, the act continues to be perpertrated. Several factors are advanced for this harmful practice, yet for any irreversible action in a human, the will/opinion of the individual should be considered… This properly resonates with the theme for this year 2025 of zero tolerance to FGM, which says, “Her Voice, Her Future”🤝. Be it for societal norms, conformity, or for controlling sexuality, none of these reasons seem to seek the direct benefits of the girl/woman, especially as FGM is popularly known to be carried out before 15 years of age.

External control has never been as effective as internally motivated discipline🤔.

Beyond male or female, let everyone be rightly empowered and given a chance to decide about their sexuality and lives in general.💪

We stand against FGM, and this day, we celebrate every survivor of FGM. You are not to blame, and we hope you find the courage to break this cycle of violence and stop/denounce FGM where you find yourself.
